Disgust is one of the general human emotions identified by Paul Ekman, a psychologist who studies universal facial displays. He found happiness, sadness, surprise, disgust, anger, fear, and contempt are identifiable in many different world cultures. Pixar’s Inside Out only used five of them, but I think they missed an opportunity to let Kathy Griffin be the shocked voice of OMG surprise and Bill Burr contemptuously critiquing everything little Riley encounters, especially broccoli pizza.

Believing Without Thinking

The old Albert Einstein quote goes: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” The old Homer Simpson quote goes: “Everyone is stupid except me.” North Korea (hereafter: NK) has been repeating their same style of belligerent rhetoric, seemingly as their only foreign policy, for the past 60 years. They appear to think they are sane while the rest of the world is stupid. They may have a nuclear bomb, but their capacity to deliver it across the Pacific remains questionable due to their antique computers and clumsy rockets. Continue reading

A New Woman

Recently, Jenna Talackova tried to enter the Miss Universe Canada beauty contest to be eligible to be crowned, unofficially, the hottest woman on Earth. She ran into a snag though. She was born in Canada, looked beautiful and was in the age range. The problem was that she has the Y chromosome. She was born a man. However, she is one gorgeous (wo)man, now. After doctors performed reassignment surgery on him/her, she came off the operating table looking like Ivanka Trump’s younger sister. Continue reading
